A report titled “The Great Transshipment Scam” suggests that this potentially illegal activity might be valued at approximately $60 billion, marking a substantial loss in U.S. tariff income.
Among the named nations and territories in the report are significant global players like India, Canada, the European Union, Israel, and Japan, as well as Mexico, South Korea, and other countries such as Taiwan, Brazil, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Also implicated are Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam, Argentina, and several others, including Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Colombia. The report identifies key hubs in Mexico, India, and Vietnam as significant transit points, with an estimated $67 billion in goods reportedly transshipped from China to the U.S. in 2025, potentially causing around $28 billion in lost tariff revenue.
Particular attention is drawn to the Pune-Gujarat-Chennai corridor in India. The report claims that this route has been advantageous for Chinese shipments of items like electric pumps and compressors, benefiting businesses in the region while simultaneously exerting competitive pressure on American manufacturers.
