In a bid to bolster economic ties, India’s Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal recently engaged in discussions with key Finnish officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Riikka Purra and Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto. These meetings were aimed at enhancing trade and investment relations between India and Finland.
The talks emphasized the potential for collaboration in pivotal sectors such as digitalisation, innovation, and research and development. Both sides highlighted the significance of fostering partnerships in startups and other business ventures. Additionally, they delved into the possibilities of joint efforts in cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, 6G, quantum technologies, semiconductors, as well as space exploration and sustainability initiatives.
A central theme of these discussions was the envisaged India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The two nations examined how this agreement could serve as a catalyst to elevate bilateral trade, attract investment, and unlock new business opportunities. The emphasis was on how the FTA could potentially transform economic interactions and provide a significant boost to both economies.
These meetings occur against the backdrop of ongoing negotiations between India and the European Union for a comprehensive trade agreement. This potential agreement is designed to fortify economic relations and enhance cooperation across various strategic sectors, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening international partnerships.
