Google Expands AI-Powered Browsing in Chrome for Android Users in India

Date:

Google has rolled out its Gemini in Chrome artificial intelligence features to Android users in India, enhancing the Chrome browser with AI-powered capabilities. This update allows users to perform tasks such as summarizing webpages and connecting information across Google services directly within the browser.

Gemini in Chrome acts as an AI assistant, providing features like webpage summaries and integration with services including Gmail and Calendar. Additionally, it offers image generation capabilities. A more advanced auto-browse feature is also available for Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers on both desktop and Android devices in India.

The auto-browse feature is particularly notable for its ability to handle complex, multi-step web tasks. This capability allows Gemini to navigate websites and complete tasks such as comparing products, finding deals, booking event tickets, making restaurant reservations, and scheduling appointments on behalf of users. These activities typically require users to switch between multiple webpages and perform various actions manually.

To address the potential risks associated with AI agents interacting directly with websites, Google has implemented safeguards within the Gemini system. These measures are designed to identify threats such as prompt-injection attempts, and users may be required to confirm sensitive actions before completion. These precautions are especially important when the AI system can make changes, submit forms, or carry out transactions on a user’s behalf.

The number of multi-step tasks users can perform through auto-browse depends on their Google AI subscription plan. Google AI Pro subscribers have a limit of 20 multi-step requests per day, while Google AI Ultra subscribers can make up to 200 requests daily.

With this expansion, Google aims to enhance the functionality of Chrome by integrating more agentic AI capabilities, allowing users to utilize AI for task automation across the web, rather than merely posing questions to the AI.
