The establishment of a new airport in Purulia district is poised to significantly boost the region’s connectivity and economic prospects. Slated for agreement signing on September 28, this project is part of the Indian government’s UDAN scheme aimed at enhancing regional air travel accessibility.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced that the West Bengal government has finalized preparations for the airport, having already submitted a license application. This development is expected to catalyze growth in Purulia’s tourism, infrastructure, and industrial sectors, offering a fresh impetus for economic activity.
With the airport in place, the district is set to become an attractive destination for major investments, particularly in sectors such as defense, steel, cement, and solar energy. Adhikari indicated that Purulia could potentially draw investments totaling around ₹1 lakh crore within the next year, underscoring the transformative potential of improved air connectivity.
Discussions on the project have included representatives from the civil aviation authorities, ensuring that the planning aligns with national aviation standards and objectives.
