Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the rapid growth of Uttar Pradesh’s defence manufacturing sector, highlighting its role in bolstering India’s security capabilities. Speaking at the inauguration of the fourth edition of the UP International Trade Show in Greater Noida, Shah remarked that the BrahMos missiles produced at the Lucknow facility were causing concern for Pakistan, illustrating the strategic importance of the state’s defence outputs.
The UP Defence Industrial Corridor has seen significant investment across its six nodes: Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Lucknow, Agra, Aligarh, and Kanpur. Shah pointed to the BrahMos Integration and Testing Facility in Lucknow, inaugurated in May 2025, as a key example of the state’s expanding capabilities. The facility, which undertakes the assembly and testing of the supersonic cruise missile, marked its first production milestone in October 2025. This initiative, with an investment of around ₹300 crore, spans nearly 200 acres and aims to enhance indigenous defence production while supporting local industries and creating skilled job opportunities.
Amit Shah also mentioned the production of AK-203 assault rifles in Amethi as part of the state’s growing industrial base. He noted that Uttar Pradesh’s improved law-and-order situation and the expansion of local initiatives like the One District, One Product program were attracting further investments and creating employment opportunities for the youth.
The UP International Trade Show 2026, running from September 25 to 29, features a diverse assembly of manufacturers, MSMEs, exporters, artisans, startups, investors, and international buyers. This event underscores the state’s ambitions to establish itself as a hub for defence manufacturing and industrial growth.
