Starting October 1, Maharashtra has mandated Aadhaar authentication for registering immovable property documents in an effort to curb fraud and enhance the verification of identities. This new requirement impacts 63 types of property registration processes, including the sale, purchase, mortgage, and partition deeds, according to Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule. The initiative aims to diminish cases of impersonation, fake documentation, and unnecessary human intervention in the registration process.
For individuals without an Aadhaar number, the state requires proof of Aadhaar application along with other government-issued identification documents. This information will undergo verification before any property transaction is finalized, ensuring that the process remains airtight against fraudulent activities.
The state government has also introduced special provisions to ensure inclusivity, particularly for minors and other eligible categories. Children who have yet to receive an Aadhaar number will not be denied the benefits of property registration solely due to the absence of this identification number.
Officials assert that these measures are designed to make the property registration system more secure, transparent, and efficient. By integrating Aadhaar authentication into the process, the government seeks to reinforce trust and reduce the risk of fraudulent transactions within the property sector.
