Digital Audit Tools Uncover Donation Theft, Prompting Rai’s Temple Trust Resignation

Date:

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust has officially accepted the resignations of its General Secretary, Champat Rai, and trustee Anil Mishra amid an investigation into alleged embezzlement of donations meant for the Ram Mandir. This decision, according to the trust’s treasurer Govind Giri, aligns with the trust’s constitution. While making the announcement, Giri also highlighted Rai’s significant contributions to the trust since its formation.

The resignations follow accusations of irregularities in the handling of temple donations. Pankaj Jaiswal, a senior member of the trust, expressed deep disappointment over the situation, labeling it both painful and shameful. He emphasized that any misappropriation involving the contributions of devotees is completely unacceptable.

In response to the resignations, the trust has named Krisha Mohan as the interim General Secretary, while Govind Giri retains his role as treasurer. The trust is scheduled to reconvene on July 22, by which time the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is anticipated to have completed its final report on the matter.

Govind Giri has made it clear that the trust will not shield anyone found guilty of wrongdoing, underscoring that all implicated individuals, regardless of their status, must face legal consequences. As of now, eight people have been arrested in connection with the alleged theft of donations, and the investigation is still ongoing.
