Smart Engineering Unveiled: Delhi’s Barapullah Phase III Opens September 29

Date:

The opening of the Barapullah Phase III elevated corridor on September 29 is set to transform travel across Delhi, significantly cutting travel time between East Delhi, Noida, and key areas of South Delhi. The new corridor promises to reduce journeys that currently take 35–40 minutes to just 15 minutes, offering a much-needed relief for daily commuters.

This 3.5-kilometer stretch will seamlessly connect Mayur Vihar Phase I with Sarai Kale Khan, integrating with the existing Barapullah network to provide a largely signal-free route towards South Delhi. The project includes a bridge over the Yamuna River, nine traffic-distribution loops, connecting ramps, and even a dedicated cycle track, catering to both motorists and cyclists.

Initiated in 2015 following its approval a year earlier, the construction of the corridor faced numerous setbacks. Delays were primarily due to land acquisition issues, regulatory clearances, construction challenges, and the COVID-19 pandemic. These hurdles not only postponed the project but also increased its budget from an estimated ₹1,260 crore to approximately ₹1,635 crore.

As the final touches are being put in place, officials express optimism that the corridor will soon be a vital artery in Delhi’s transport infrastructure. The completion of major constructions, such as the Yamuna bridge and connecting ramps, signifies a crucial step towards alleviating the city’s congestion woes and enhancing urban mobility.
