Modi’s Tech Diplomacy Earns Global Awards, Faces Mixed Reactions

Date:

During an official trip to Seychelles, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honored with the Guardian of the Blue Horizon award, marking him as the inaugural recipient of this new international distinction. This accolade is the latest addition to Modi’s collection of international recognitions, underscoring India’s expanding diplomatic engagement on the global stage.

However, the award ceremony was not without controversy. Initial attention was diverted to the original certificate, which contained spelling errors and raised questions about its authenticity. The foreign ministry of Seychelles later addressed these concerns, explaining that a draft version had been mistakenly circulated. They confirmed the award’s legitimacy and provided a revised certificate to rectify the oversight.

This development has sparked significant political discourse within India. Opposition leaders have criticized both the timing and the establishment of the award. In contrast, Modi’s party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has framed the recognition as a testament to India’s rising global influence and the prime minister’s effective leadership.

Prime Minister Modi has previously received various international awards in recognition of his leadership, with past honors coming from nations such as Ethiopia and Trinidad and Tobago. Supporters of Modi interpret these accolades as reflective of India’s increasing diplomatic stature. However, critics argue that these awards contribute to a political image overly focused on the prime minister’s persona.

The Guardian of the Blue Horizon award is the latest in a series of international honors acknowledging Modi’s role and India’s growing presence on the world stage. As India continues to enhance its diplomatic relationships worldwide, such recognitions highlight the country’s strategic importance and influence in global affairs.
