In a bid to curb the rising influenza-A cases, including 1,777 instances of H1N1, Delhi’s health infrastructure is on high alert. Health Minister Pankaj Singh convened a meeting on Monday with municipal health officers and officials from government hospitals to assess the situation. Singh has directed health facilities to enhance their efforts in screening, reporting, and monitoring cases of influenza-like illnesses and severe respiratory infections.
The Minister assured the public that there is no cause for alarm, as the city is well-equipped with sufficient hospital beds, medical professionals, and necessary medications. He emphasized that hospitals have been instructed to adhere to established protocols for patient treatment and care, and healthcare workers are receiving training to better diagnose symptoms and manage patient care effectively. Residents are advised to maintain good respiratory and hand hygiene, wear masks in crowded settings, and to seek medical guidance rather than self-medicating when experiencing symptoms.
Despite the increase in H1N1 cases, the current numbers remain below the peaks seen in previous major outbreaks, where cases exceeded 3,000. Health officials are keeping a close watch on the situation, ensuring that hospitals are prepared to handle potential surges. The rise in cases is attributed to seasonal factors, a low rate of influenza vaccination, and a heightened level of testing among individuals showing flu-like symptoms.
