India clinched the Asian Games men’s cricket gold medal by defeating Pakistan in a high-stakes final at Korogi Sports Park, Nisshin, Japan, with a 19-run victory. The triumph marked India’s successful defense of their title, showcasing their dominance over Pakistan in T20 internationals.
Winning the toss and opting to bat, India set a formidable target of 211/6. The innings was bolstered by a rapid start from Abhishek Sharma, who scored a quick half-century, leading India to 81/2 in the Powerplay—their highest against Pakistan in T20Is. Despite a mid-innings slowdown due to effective bowling from Pakistan’s Arafat Minhas, Ahmed Daniyal, and Abrar Ahmed, India regained momentum with a crucial late surge.
Tilak Varma was instrumental in India’s strong finish, delivering an unbeaten 51 off just 22 balls. His partnership with Shivam Dube, who added 27 runs, was pivotal in taking India’s total beyond the 200-run mark, setting a challenging target for Pakistan.
In response, Pakistan made a valiant effort with Hasan Nawaz leading the charge, scoring an impressive 96 not out from 51 deliveries. He formed a significant 87-run partnership with Saim Ayub, putting pressure on the Indian bowlers and keeping Pakistan’s hopes alive.
However, India’s bowlers held their nerve in the crucial stages. Washington Sundar’s effective 18th over and Jasprit Bumrah’s tight penultimate over were key in stifling Pakistan’s chase. With 33 runs required in the final over, Shivam Dube managed to defend successfully, sealing India’s victory.
The win not only secured another Asian Games gold for the Indian team but also reinforced their T20 superiority over Pakistan, underscoring their prowess in high-pressure games on the international stage.
