Swedish firm Opsio has announced the launch of PrismIQ, an automated visual inspection service aiming to revolutionize real-time defect detection in manufacturing processes. This innovative technology, which merges industrial cameras with deep-learning models tailored to specific manufacturing products, is initially being introduced in India, with plans for a broader international rollout. PrismIQ is engineered to pinpoint production issues such as surface defects, cracks, contamination, dimensional variations, and assembly errors as they occur.
Designed to be integrated directly into production lines, the system operates using edge hardware, enabling rapid processing of inspection results without the exclusive reliance on manual checks. This system can be seamlessly connected to existing PLC and SCADA infrastructure, facilitating automated sorting and enhanced production-line decision-making. Opsio has emphasized that PrismIQ addresses the constraints of manual inspections, particularly on high-speed manufacturing lines where scrutinizing every item is challenging. The platform incorporates an active-learning component, continuously refining its detection models using production data.
In contrast to standalone vision software, PrismIQ is provided as a comprehensive service, with Opsio managing all aspects from camera, lens, and lighting configuration to model development and factory-system integration. The service package also includes operator training, quality dashboards, and regular performance evaluations. According to Opsio, the process from feasibility assessment to full production deployment typically spans eight to twelve weeks.
The decision to launch PrismIQ in India was influenced by the country’s rapidly growing manufacturing sector and Opsio’s established presence through its AI Lab in Bengaluru. This facility focuses on developing and testing applied AI solutions for industrial use. Engineered from Opsio’s headquarters in Karlstad, Sweden, the technology is initially available to manufacturers in sectors such as automotive, electronics, food and beverage, and pharmaceuticals. Engaging with new customers begins with a feasibility study and proof-of-concept using the specific manufacturer’s product samples.
Opsio’s Chairman, Daniel Hedlund, highlighted the rapid growth of Indian manufacturing and its potential for global competitiveness, emphasizing quality as a key differentiator. Praveena Shenoy, Country Manager for Opsio India, expressed the company’s expectation that automated inspection will enable manufacturers to detect defects earlier, thus enhancing quality control processes.
