US President Donald Trump stated on Friday that he was not aware of any imminent plans for a United States military strike on Iran, contradicting remarks made by US Ambassador to Türkiye Tom Barrack. Speaking to reporters in Florida, Trump responded to inquiries about Barrack’s comments, saying, “If that’s the case, I don’t know anything about that.”
Barrack had suggested in a Friday interview that a US strike could occur as soon as this weekend. Despite this, he emphasized that President Trump was still open to reaching a diplomatic agreement with Iran, noting that discussions had been ongoing for months. Barrack also clarified that the US was not seeking regime change in Iran and that the President’s focus was on addressing security concerns while maintaining open channels for negotiation.
The statements come amid escalating tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been vocal about his position on Iran, frequently advocating for the removal of its clerical leadership, which he accuses of endangering Israel’s security. Netanyahu has also reiterated Israel’s commitment to preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
The conflicting statements from Trump and Barrack have contributed to uncertainty regarding US policy towards Iran. While diplomatic efforts persist, there are ongoing concerns about a potential increase in military confrontations in the Middle East.
