Digital Scoring Error Spurs NEET Aspirant and Father’s Delhi Protest

Date:

Arya Singh, a NEET-UG 2026 candidate from Kanpur, along with her father, Rakesh Singh, a former soldier, has embarked on a protest outside the National Testing Agency (NTA) office in Delhi. This demonstration comes in the wake of the NTA dismissing claims from Arya and other candidates that their examination results did not align with their OMR answer sheets. The NTA defended its position by stating that images shared on social media were altered, fabricated, or created using artificial intelligence and did not match the official records maintained by the agency.

Arya has alleged discrepancies in her NEET-UG 2026 re-examination results, asserting that her initial score of 570 marks was inexplicably revised to 167. She claims that the OMR sheet provided by the NTA was flawed, pointing out errors such as missing question numbers and duplicate serial numbers. Following her objections, Arya reports that the NTA sent another OMR sheet reflecting a score of 609 marks, fueling further confusion and concern.

Despite the NTA’s assurances that all original OMR sheets correspond with the declared scores, Arya’s father, Rakesh Singh, remains unsatisfied with the agency’s explanations. He has vowed to continue their protest until they receive a satisfactory resolution and has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in what he describes as a process riddled with irregularities.

The NTA, meanwhile, has firmly denied any wrongdoing, emphasizing that its official examination documents are secured with unique identifiers such as barcodes and QR codes to prevent tampering. This controversy follows the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination held on June 21, which was necessitated by the cancellation of the original exam in May due to allegations of a paper leak. The Central Bureau of Investigation is still conducting an inquiry into the matter.
