PM Modi Advocates Tech Progress, Calls for Calm in Parliament Session

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged Indian lawmakers to prioritize productive discussions during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which is set to continue until August 13. Emphasizing the importance of debates grounded in strong arguments and facts, Modi called for constructive engagement rather than disruptions. Drawing a parallel between the session’s proceedings and the monsoon season, he advocated for both to be “proactive and productive” for the nation’s benefit.

In his address prior to the session’s commencement, Modi highlighted India’s advancements both globally and in the space sector. He specifically praised Skyroot Aerospace, a private space startup, emphasizing the youthful potential of its team, which has an average age of just 28. In a veiled reference to Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Modi noted that his comments on youth were directed at actual young people, not a “56-year-old youth.”

The Prime Minister underscored that India’s successes in space and technology are a testament to the aspirations and capabilities of the country’s younger generations. As the Monsoon Session progresses, Parliament is expected to deliberate on a variety of significant legislation, including proposals related to foreign funding regulations, taxation, higher education, judicial reforms, and the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises.

Among the prominent legislative proposals is a bill aimed at increasing the number of Supreme Court judges from 33 to 37, excluding the Chief Justice of India, in an effort to address the backlog of cases. The session is anticipated to feature robust political debates, with the government advancing several reforms while the opposition focuses on various national issues.
