PM Modi Calls for Tech-Driven Governance, Energy Solutions Amid US-Iran Tensions

Date:

In a strategic meeting aimed at addressing pressing national issues, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid out three significant directives for Union ministers. The high-level discussion centered on governance reforms, energy security, and India’s long-term development ambitions amidst economic challenges stemming from the US-Iran conflict.

The session, which extended over four hours, devoted considerable attention to the global energy landscape, particularly focusing on the Strait of Hormuz. This vital corridor for global oil supplies could potentially face disruptions, which would have far-reaching implications for India’s economy.

One of the key directives from Modi was to expedite decision-making processes and cut down on bureaucratic red tape. He underscored the necessity for government files to move swiftly through the system and advocated for more straightforward and transparent procedures to enhance the “ease of living” for citizens. Ministries were also urged to accelerate the rollout of central government schemes, especially in regions where progress has been sluggish.

Amidst growing tensions in West Asia impacting global fuel supplies, Modi instructed ministers to brace for possible disturbances in crude oil, gas, and fertilizer imports. Recognizing India’s heavy reliance on energy shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, he emphasized the importance of expanding alternative energy sources like renewables and biogas to lessen dependence on imported fuels. Additionally, the government is emphasizing austerity and fiscal discipline to mitigate the economic effects of energy uncertainties, as evidenced by rising petrol, diesel, and LPG prices in the country.

Reaffirming the vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047,” Modi stressed that this goal of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047 should be viewed as a national mission rather than a mere slogan. He encouraged ministers to prioritize next-generation reforms and enhance the delivery of welfare programs to ensure maximum benefit to citizens. The meeting also featured presentations by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Cabinet Secretary T. V. Somanathan, and NITI Aayog member Rajiv Gauba, who discussed governance, foreign policy, and the implementation of flagship schemes, all against a backdrop of rising political pressure over inflation, fuel prices, and the economic instability in West Asia.
